Overview
‘The Tale of the Spider’ serves as a metaphor for the behaviours and instincts we embody in moments of fear. By allowing the protagonist to transform into a spider, an insect so small and gentle, yet posed with the threat of larger, more dangerous forces. The opening sequence features Keira's own breath, recorded while walking alone at night. Captures the genuine anxiety and vulnerability of being a women in the night. Questioning the familiar horror tropes which fixate on the fear and death of women by instead casting a man to embody the spider. It is important that viewers feel a sense of kinship with the spider. Recognizing both its innocence and its unawareness of lurking danger, much like our own.
